When Dr. Standing tells you that you have access to a Health Coach in our practice, do questions like these go through your mind?

                 “What’s that?’

“I just want to talk to the doctor”

“Why would I need a coach?  What will I say?”

Dr. Standing’s intent is for you and your family to learn healthy habits around the 3 most important determiners of wellbeing: diet, exercise and sleep.  She loves to see families transform.  She will prescribe supplements and activities to start you on the road to change.  As a Registered Nurse and Certified Health Coach, it’s my job to walk beside you on your journey, be available for you to talk about your frustrations, and encourage you to become aware of your strengths and genius!  You know deep in your heart what you need.  It’s my job to help you become aware of it and remember who you are.

What a Health Coach is NOT:

  1. Nutritionist or Dietician
  2. Personal trainer
  3. Therapist or Psychologist
  4. Advisor
  5. Judge
  6. Diagnostician or Prescriber

What a Health Coach IS/DOES:

  1. Accountability partner
  2. Listener/facilitator
  3. Offers support and inspiration to move forward
  4. Helps increase self-awareness, recognize obstacles, strengths and the possibilities ahead
  5. Helps design actions that will lead you to reach your goals
  6. Respects your personal and physical boundaries
  7. Recognizes that you are the expert on your life and that you already have the inner wisdom and genius needed to transform yourself
  8. Invites you to leave your comfort zone and grow

The first time you talk to me, I’ll want to get to know you and your family.  I’ll want to know what you’d like to achieve during your time with our practice.  From then on, we’ll focus on action, accountability and follow-through for the future.

“You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.  What you discover will be yourself.” – Alan Alda

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela

“We don’t change by force, deprivation, guilt, fear, punishment or shame.  Willpower doesn’t do it.  We change by knowing ourselves, accepting ourselves and being kind to ourselves.” – Geneen Roth
